Flight operations at Shah Amanat International Airport in Chittagong and Cox's Bazar Airport have been halted as very severe cyclonic storm Mocha looms over Bangladesh coast.
Flight operation at the Chittagong's Shah Amanat International Airport will be suspended from 6am Saturday till 12pm Sunday, confirmed Shah Amanat International Airport Director Wing Commander Taslim Ahmed.
He said the decision was taken as the meteorological department has advised the maritime ports of Cox's Bazar and Chittagong to keep hoisted great danger signal 8.
Meanwhile, Civil Aviation Authority of Bangladesh (CAAB) have confirmed that Cox's Bazar Airport will remain closed from Saturday 7am to Sunday 7pm.
Earlier, The Bangladesh Inter-Education Board Coordination Committee gave a direction which said that the Secondary School Certificate (SSC) exam of Sunday was postponed under five boards; Chittagong board, Comilla board, Barisal board, Bangladesh Madrasa Education Board and Technical Board.
Maritime ports of Cox's Bazar, Chittagong and Payra have been advised to lower local warning signal number four and instead hoist great danger signal number eight.
The coastal districts of Cox's Bazar, Chittagong, Feni, Noakhali, Lakshmipur, Chandpur, Barisal, Bhola, Patuakhali, Jhalokathi, Pirojpur, Barguna and their offshore islands and chars will come under great danger signal number eight.
According to the latest weather bulletin, the very severe cyclonic storm Mocha over east central Bay and adjoining area is likely to intensify further, move in a north-northwesterly direction and cross Cox's Bazar-North Myanmar coast by 6pm on Sunday.
