National Parliament Speaker Dr Shirin Sharmin Chaudhury has said members of Lions Club International can help in building a Smart Bangladesh by utilizing the skills of the young generation.
She made the remarks as the chief guest at the Lions Club International's “36th Annual Multiple District Convention 2023” at a Dhaka hotel on Saturday.
“This convention will further motivate the members towards human service. Through this, the public welfare activities of the Lions Club will be expanded. Lions Club can play a role in building a developed and prosperous Smart Bangladesh by prioritizing the views of the youth and harnessing their skills,” she added.
“Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman worked for the welfare of the common people throughout his life. His main philosophy was to free the people of Bengal from poverty and discrimination. His struggle for the economic and political emancipation of the exploited and oppressed people of Bengal is eternal,” the speaker noted.
“Along with the government, Lions Club members are working dedicatedly to build Sonar Bangla, the dream of the Father of the Nation, which is commendable,” she added.
The speaker urged all the members of the Lions Club to be more dedicated to building a society without discrimination.
Shirin Sharmin Chaudhury said that the main goal of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina is to build a Smart Bangladesh by 2041.
“The government is working tirelessly to implement the four main pillars of Smart Bangladesh - Smart Community, Smart Governance, Smart Citizen, Smart Economy. As smart citizens, Lions Club members are playing an important role in achieving Smart Bangladesh and will continue to do so in the future,” she added.
She also said that representing 210 countries, the organization is working to break the vicious cycle of poverty and establish a prosperous democracy.
Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, to ensure inclusive development, has provided bank accounts for farmers at Tk10, assistance for mothers of female students through mobile phones, setting up of Sheikh Russell Digital Lab for technical education and more, the speaker said.
