Chandpur sees rain after 17 days

A heavy shower fell in Chandpur on Thursday evening — the first in 17 days — offering residents of the district relief from the scorching heat.

The Met Office recorded 24 millimetres of rainfall during this time, said SM Shoaib, meteorologist of Chandpur District Meteorological Office.

However, the weather office predicted a mild to moderate heatwave sweeping over Dhaka, Khulna, Barisal, Chittagong and Sylhet divisions and the district of Pabna. It may abate from most places.

Meanwhile, rains or thundershowers accompanied by temporary gusty wind is likely to occur at a few places over Dhaka, Khulna, Barisal, Chittagong and Sylhet divisions and at one or two places over Rangpur, Rajshahi and Mymensingh divisions, with hails at isolated places, the BMD added.

Day temperatures may fall by 1-3°C and night temperatures may fall by 2-5°C over the country, as per the bulletin.

The highest temperature of 38.6°C was recorded in Jessore on Thursday.

A trough of westerly low lies over West Bengal and the adjoining area.
