Even though people initially followed the rules and travelled accordingly during the first day of the Eid-ul-Fitr holiday, the railway stations could not maintain discipline on Thursday as passengers without tickets broke through checkpoints and and boarded the rooftops of trains.
Law enforcement officials present at the stations failed to stop them.
Meanwhile, due to the excessive pressure of homebound people, two trains bound for Panchagarh had to leave the station late.
Members of the law enforcement present said initially people without tickets started to gather in crowds, and despite efforts to remove them from the station, the crowd kept growing.
Bangla TribuneThey noted that at one point, all passengers began to enter the stations forcefully all at once.
Many passengers without tickets also took seats reserved for ticket holders.
Due to the excessive crowd, many could not even reach their reserved seats and had to find a place near the coach gates.
Regarding the matter, Kamalapur Railway Station Manager Md Masud Sarwar said it was really difficult to manage so many people when they swarmed in like that.
Bangla Tribune“Our law enforcement agencies also have limitations. Even if we want to, we cannot take action against so many people,” he added.
Dhaka city residents, who mostly travel by train to go to their hometowns, enjoyed a crowd-free platform on Wednesday, the first day of the Eid-ul-Fitr holiday.
Many of them have expressed satisfaction with the measures the railway authorities have taken, as they were able to move freely on the platform and travel easily to their destinations.
It is a common scenario on railway platforms to see crowded trains and long lines at stations during the Eid holidays.
