Where is Arav Khan now?

Dubai gold trader Rabiul Islam alias Arav Khan, who is a fugitive accused in the murder case of a police inspector, has been missing since Interpol issued a red notice.

Earlier, he had quite a presence on social media but he is no longer seen there. Even the police are claiming that they have no clear idea about Arav's whereabouts after issuing of the red notice.

Interpol does not provide any information about the person against whom they issue a red notice. The organization collects and conducts its own information. However, the NCB branch of Bangladesh Police is constantly in touch with Interpol, the police headquarters said.

A law enforcement source said it is not yet clear whether Arav is staying in Dubai or has left Dubai to some other country. However, work on these issues is ongoing in coordination with the Dubai Police.

Contact is being made to trace his location through Interpol and bring him back to the country with the help of the law enforcement agencies of the respective countries.

Since Arav Khan was staying in Dubai with an Indian passport, Bangladesh law enforcement agencies are also maintaining contact with the Indian embassy.

Recently, several people including cricketer Shakib Al Hasan, Hero Alom, actress Dighi went to the opening ceremony of Arav's gold store in Dubai. Around this event, the topic of Rabiul Islam alias Arav came up again in the discussion.

The police sat down again. An email was sent to Interpol to inquire about Rabiul Islam alias Arav, who is on Interpol's red notice. The agency (Interpol) does not comment on specific cases, investigations or individuals, the return mail said.

It was advised to speak to the law enforcement agencies of the concerned country.

Manjur Rahman, assistant inspector general (AIG) of the media wing of the police headquarters, said that Interpol has issued a red notice against Arav, the accused in the police murder case. As of now, there is no information about Arav's whereabouts.

However, contacts are ongoing with several countries including Interpol and Dubai Police to trace his whereabouts. NCB branch is working to identify his location and bring him back to the country, he added.

Recently, Rabiul Islam alias Arav Khan's name has been added to Interpol's most wanted list as a Bangladeshi criminal. The 35-year-old Rabiul was born in Bagerhat, Bangladesh.

With Arav's name added to Interpol's red notice list, the number of Bangladeshi criminals in the organization's list stood at 63.

Members of the law enforcement said that they are looking into how Arav became the owner of a huge property and who is behind it.

Besides, detectives are investigating how he went to India from Bangladesh, how he made a passport in India and then travelled back to Bangladesh, and regarding the information obtained that a police officer of the rank of police inspector helped him.

At the same time, although the charge sheet of the police murder case has been given, the investigation officials have applied for a re-investigation of the case.

On July 8, 2018, Inspector Mamun Imran Khan of Special Branch (SB) of police was killed at Arav's office in Banani. Later, they burnt his body. Arav Khan alias Rabiul alias Hridoy was made an accused in the case filed by the police in this incident.
