There were 12 Election Commission officials in the Dhaka-bound Sonar Bangla Express that derailed after hitting a stationary freight train at Hasanpur Railway Station of Comilla on Sunday evening.
EC Senior Assistant Secretary Mohammad Nazim Uddin, who was on the train, said: "We were returning to Dhaka after training for the Chittagong-8 constituency by-election. All of them are more or less injured. However, nobody's condition is critical, though.”
The election officers in the train are EC Senior Assistant Secretary Raushan Ara Begum, Senior Assistant Secretary Mohammad Nazim Uddin, Assistant Secretary Mohammad Ashfakur Rahman, ICT Systems Analyst Mamunur Hossain, Election Commissioner Begum Rasheda Sultana's Personal Assistant Habiba Akhtar, Electoral Training Institute Deputy Director Mohammad Jahangir Alam and Abul Kashem Mohammad Mazharul Islam, Assistant Programmer Shudhanshu Kumar Sarkar, Farzana Liza of NID Wing, Aminul Islam, an upazila election officer of Rangamati district and others from the ICT department.
