Home minister raises question over sudden increase in late-night fires

Home Minister Asaduzzaman Khan Kamal has raised questions regarding the reason behind the sudden increase in fire incidents taking place late at night.

“Fire incidents have been reported in various markets of the capital recently. People are questioning why the incidents only take place late at night,” he told reporters while distributing iftar among the poor in Dhaka's Tejgaon on Sunday.

Stating that all fire incidents have a reason behind them, the minister added that fire can originate from electrical issues, short circuits, or arson.

“But we are not sure yet. We all have the same question in mind as to why so many fire incidents took place late at night.”

In recent months, several markets of the capital caught fire early in the mornings, or late at night.

The recent fire, which broke out at Dhaka's New Supermarket, took place at around 5:40am.

The fire in Bangabazar market, which took place earlier this month, broke out at 6:10am.
