Ilias Kanchan: Vehicles without fitness should not be on roads during Eid

A lot of accidents take place amid Eid-ul-Fitr and one of the main reasons behind those accidents is caused by vehicles on the roads without fitness.

Actor Ilias Kanchan, founder and chairman of Nirapad Sarak Chai (a non-profitable, non-political voluntary social organization), brought the issue forward in a discussion meeting to make the upcoming Eid journey safe and smooth by road.

In the meeting held at the head office of BRTA in Banani of the capital on Sunday, he demanded to stop unfit vehicles on the road to reduce accidents and loss of life.

Ilias Kanchan said: "During Eid, the communication system should be managed in such a way that people can reach their homes smoothly by road."

Mentioning that accidents will be reduced if two things are given importance, he said: "I have been saying for a long time about the banning of unfit cars. But still unfit cars are running on the road. It has to be stopped. It is known from the news that the vehicles involved in the accident are unfit. It should be ensured that such unfit vehicles cannot enter the road."

Ilias Kanchan mentioned the second cause of accidents is the lack of licenses.

He said: "Unlicensed vehicles cannot enter the road. This should also be confirmed that no unlicensed driver can drive the vehicle. If these two things are confirmed, I think accidents will be reduced."

In the meeting, Minister of Road Transport and Bridges Obaidul Quader emphasized on the implementation of order on the road to make the journey of people safe and smooth on the road during the celebration of Eid-ul-Fitr. He added: "How to enforce order on the road to reduce traffic congestion and accidents is the biggest challenge."

Obaidul Quader said: "The filling station will be open 24 hours for five days ahead of and seven days after Eid. The road from Elenga to Sirajganj, Bogra North should be operational to resolve traffic jam."
