Prothom Alo reporter Samsuzzaman Shams gets bail in another DSA case

A Dhaka court on Sunday granted bail to Prothom Alo journalist Samsuzzaman Shams in a second Digital Security Act (DSA) case filed over publishing a report on March 26.

Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Mohammad Sheikh Sadi granted the bail after the journalist surrendered before the court, Samsuzzaman's lawyer Prashant Kumar Karmkar said.

Earlier on March 29, Syed Md Golam Kibria, a Jubo League leader filed the DSA case with Tejgaon police station in the capital.

On April 3, a Dhaka court granted bail to Shams in another case filed under DSA over the same news report.

Dhaka Additional Metropolitan Magistrate Mohammad Asaduzzaman Noor granted the bail on a Tk20,000 bond till the filing of the police report.

Prothom Alo reporter Samsuzzaman Shams, working in Savar near the capital Dhaka, was picked up from his house in the Ambagan area near Jahangirnagar University in the early hours of Wednesday by the CID for allegedly publishing fake and fabricated news.

Later, he was sued under the DSA on the same day and a Dhaka court sent him to jail on Thursday rejecting his bail plea.
