Saudi road crash: Death toll of Bangladeshi pilgrims reaches 18

The death toll of Bangladeshi pilgrims in the bus accident in Saudi Arabia has risen to 18 on Wednesday.

Besides, 16 people are under treatment in different hospitals.

According to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the total number of passengers in the bus was 47 with 34 Bangladeshis among them.

The deceased are Ruku Mia, Md Imam Hossain Rony, Khairul Islam, Md Russell Mollah, Md Nasrul Islam, Ruhul Amin, Sabuj Hossain, Md Helal Uddin, Md Asif, Shafatul Islam, Shahidul Islam, Tushar Majumdar, Mamun Mia, Miraj Hossain, Gias, Md Hossain, Sakib, and Rana Mia.

The bus was carrying 47 Umrah pilgrims to Makkah, and among them 34 passengers were Bangladeshis, Ministry of Foreign Affairs spokesperson Seheli Sabrin said.

The accident occurred in Saudi Arabia's Asir province — around 650km from Jeddah — at around 4pm on Monday.

According to media reports, the bus collided with a bridge following a brake failure, overturned and burst into flames.
