Death in custody: Autopsy shows presence of coagulated blood in body

The post-mortem report on Wednesday found the presence of coagulated blood on the hands of the Noagaon woman who died in RAB custody.

The issue had come up in the probe report as well. While the report only mentioned the marks on the outside of the hand, during the post-mortem, the doctors specifically found that the blood was clotted in the flesh of the hand.

Following the death of Sultana Jasmine, an employee of Naogaon land office, Jasmine Akhter, assistant commissioner of Rajshahi Deputy Commissioner's Office, went to Rajshahi Medical College Hospital and prepared a report on the condition of the body.

She said that apart from the head, she found injuries near the elbow of Jasmine's right hand.

A board of three doctors conducted the autopsy at RMCH morgue. Dr Kofil Uddin, who is in-charge of the team, also confirmed that the body had bruises under the right arm and near the elbow.

While Jasmine's relatives claimed that Jasmine was tortured to death after being detained, RAB has always denied this allegation.

The 45-year-old Sultana Jasmine died days after she was detained by the Rapid Action Battalion in Naogaon town on Wednesday. She died while undergoing treatment at Rajshahi Medical College Hospital on Friday morning.

She was an office assistant at the land office of Chandipur union of Naogaon Sadar upazila.
