Chicken wholesale shop closed for unavailability of receipt

The Directorate of National Consumers' Right Protection (DNCRP) has shut down a chicken shop in the capital's Kaptan Bazar for failing to show the purchase price of the chicken and not providing the sales receipt.

Manzoor Mohammad Shahriar, director of the DNCRP, ordered the closure of the shop while monitoring the price of chicken in Kaptan Bazar on Monday.

At that time, he ordered the wholesalers to go to the consumer's office with the documents.

Although purchase receipt is mandatory for all types of products including chicken, many people do not follow it. Most traders don't listen to buy and sell price displays. Therefore, the directorate has instructed to draw the purchase and sale list and keep the purchase receipt.

A team of the organization has been monitoring the price of chicken in Kaptan Bazar of the capital since Monday morning. At this time, the director of Directorate of National Consumers' Right Protection urged to keep the wholesale price of broiler chicken at Tk185 with a small profit. Wholesale traders said that they bought chicken for Tk170-175.

A company named Al-Amin Traders was fined Tk1,000 and a company named Janata Hans Aarat was temporarily closed for failing to show purchase vouchers during the raid.

Abdul Jabbar Mandal, assistant director of the directorate and office head of Dhaka District Office, among other officials, participated in the campaign.

At the beginning of the campaign, Manzoor Mohammad Shahriar, director of the DNCRP, said that Kaptan Bazar is one of the wholesale markets of chicken. Recently, the production companies have reduced the price of chicken on the occasion of Ramadan.

He said: “We visited Kaptan Bazar to verify if they were complying with the price. We found some inconsistencies and asked them to correct it. Legal action will be taken if such inconsistencies are found again.”

“There is still volatility in the market for the sale of golden or cockerels. At the retail level, the same chicken was seen selling for Tk330 to some, Tk335 to some and Tk340 to some,” he added.
