Stating that the driver of the bus of Emad Paribahan that recently crashed in Madaripur's Dhaka-Bhanga expressway did not have a license to operate a heavy vehicle, the committee formed to look into the incident said in its report submitted on Wednesday.
The report found three reasons behind the tragic accident that took 19 lives: the fitness certificate of the bus had expired, the driver did not have a professional licence and the bus was driven at a high speed.
The probe committee head, Pallab Kumar Hazra, said they started the investigation the day after the accident and it was completed on Tuesday night.
The committee prepared the report based on its visit to the spot, interviewing locals, the family members of the deceased driver, helper and supervisor and the owner of the bus, he said.
The report revealed that the bus was unfit and plying the expressway despite its registration being suspended temporarily. The driver did not have a licence to drive heavy vehicles either. Apart from this, the bus lost control due to the slippery road caused by rainfall.

“Vehicles ply this expressway very fast. Therefore, we made 14 recommendations to prevent accidents on this road, including making it mandatory that passengers wear seatbelts, monitoring speed limits by deploying law enforcement personnel, installing GPS trackers and CCTV cameras in every vehicle and in the highways and expressways,” he added.
The driver of the bus of Emad Paribahan, leaving from Khulna at around 7:30am on Sunday, lost control of the wheel and fell down the expressway in the Qutubpur area of Shibchar upazila.
