The National Action Plan (NAP) has an ambitious investment target of $230 billion that must be harnessed at an accelerated pace from international climate funds.
Environment Minister Md Shahab Uddin, said this in the inter-ministerial roundtable on Adaptation Action in Bangladesh at Bangladesh Foreign Service Academy on Sunday.
The UK government will play a significant role in implementing the NAP's suggested initiatives, Shahab Uddin said.
He said: “The Bangladesh government has also approved the Mujib Climate Prosperity Plan (2022-2041) very recently which aims to shift Bangladesh's trajectory from vulnerability to resilience to prosperity. The Global Center on Adaptation (GCA) will be an important adaptation partner for Bangladesh.”
Dhaka TribuneThe mnvironment minister said: “Bangladesh has taken various steps to deliver the ambitious adaptation agenda. The NAP (2023-2050) is a roadmap and framework to implement medium and long-term adaptation actions in Bangladesh.”
With efficient adaptation techniques, the NAP aims to create a country that is climate resilient. It will develop climate-resilient agriculture, infrastructure and other socio-economic sectors through implementing inclusive and ecosystem-based adaptation, improved governance, enhanced climate finance and transformative capacity-building, and innovation.
Diector General of the Multilateral Economic Wing of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs Faiyaz Murshid Kazi moderated the roundtable.
