Another ship carrying equipment for the Rooppur Nuclear Power Plant (RNPP) has arrived at Mongla port.
The Bangladesh flagship “MV Aparajita” carried some 1,200 tons of machinery and reached Jetty No 7 of Mongla port at around 11:30am on Tuesday.
Haldia port in India was once again used to transit this equipment from Russia. The concerned claimed that the ship transited there to collect fuel for the ship.
According to HM Dulal, director of Al Safa Shipping License, a local shipping agent: "Some 1,200 tons of machinery products were imported from Russia in 525 packages. The product was loaded onto the ship in the last week of January. In order to receive fuel oil, the ship transited Haldia port in India.”
The packages are now being unloaded from the ship. Rooppur Nuclear Power Plant authorities are set to receive the machinery within two days.
On February 23, another ship carrying machinery goods from Rooppur Nuclear Power Plant (RNPP) arrived at Mongla port in Bagerhat via India.
The ship carried some 1,690 tons of machinery in 989 packages that came from Russia.
Another Bangladeshi ship 'MV Sejuti' anchored in Mongla with 1,048 tons of goods on the evening of February 16.
On January 22, Foreign Minister Dr AK Abdul Momen said Bangladesh will not accept the Russian ships which are under sanctions, noting that Bangladesh has developed a good relationship with the US.
Bangladesh has conveyed to the Russian side that they can send any ship except the sanctioned 69 ships carrying equipment for the Rooppur Nuclear Power Plant.
Earlier on January 17, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs provided a list of 90 banned large cargo ships to the shipping Ministry so that it can stop the ships from entering the ports in Bangladesh.
These vessels are subject to US and UN sanctions.
