Russian House in Dhaka celebrates International Mother Language Day

The Russian House in Dhaka has observed “Martyrs' Day and International Mother Language Day (IMLD)” in a befitting manner.

On this occasion, children's painting workshop titled "Language of my own country" was jointly held with the Serov Academy of Fine Arts, an affiliated organization to the Russian House in Dhaka, says a media statement. 

All Its 70 members took part in the event and were awarded by certificates.

International Mother Language Institute (IMLI) hosted a language meeting where speakers delivered speeches in their native languages.

Education Minister Dr Dipu Moni and representatives of various cultural and language institutes attended the event.

Maxim Dobrokhotov, director of Russian House in Dhaka, paid deep respects to all Language Martyrs, especially, young students from Dhaka University, who made on this day in 1952 their sublime sacrifice for establishing Bangla as a state language of the erstwhile Pakistan.

He also reminded that Language Movement inspired the Bengali nation to fight against injustices and exploitation until achieving national independence in 1971. 

Moreover, Unesco declared February 21st as International Mother Language Day to promote linguistic and cultural diversity.
