A Bangladeshi barge on Saturday sank in the Hooghly River after hitting another barge due to dense fog in the Hooghly River in India.
The incident occurred near Nishchintpur in West Bengal's South 24 Parganas district.
The barge named MV Rafsan Habib had nine crew and an Indian sailor.
Locals rescued all 10 occupants of the barge safely. Later, they were sent to the hospital.
Police force and civil defense team of Kulpi police station reached the spot after receiving the information.
"The barge left Kolkata for Bangladesh on Friday night. The bottom of the barge leaked after it collided with another barge due to dense fog,” said a sailor of the sunken barge.
Mandirbazar SDPO Biswajit Naskar said: “The exact reason for the sinking of the barge will be known after the investigation”.
