DUJ demands Sagar-Runi murder report to be released within 30 days

Leaders and activists of Dhaka Union of Journalists (DUJ) observed a symbolic hunger strike in front of National Press Club on Wednesday demanding trial for the murder of Sagar-Runi and all journalists.

DUJ President Sohel Haider Chowdhury said: “Eleven years have passed since the murder of Sagar-Runi. In these 11 years, we have held at least eleven hundred events to demand justice for their murder and the murder of all journalists with no outcome.”

Regarding the next program, Sohel said: “We will give a memorandum to the Ministry of Home Affairs today. One of the many things that we have said in this memorandum is that the fair investigation report of the killing of all journalists, including Sagar-Runi, must be published within the next 30 days.”

If the investigation report is not published within this period, then they will take next necessary steps, he added.

About the effectiveness of the wage board, he said: “Ninth wage board has been formed but we do not see its effectiveness or any implementation. But an organization called DFP is continuously lying. They are continuously giving aerial circulation to the newspapers which do not have circulation.”
