At least 15 people were killed and 24 others injured in separate road accidents in Rangpur, Tangail, Rajshahi, Pabna, Chandpur, Satkhira, Pirojpur and Mymensingh district on Monday and Tuesday.
In Rangpur, three people were killed, and at least 15 people were injured in a head-on collision between two buses.
The incident took place at around 7:45am in the district's Taraganj upazila, said Rangpur Fair Service and Civil Defence Assistant Director Farid Hasan Chowdhury.
The deceased could not be identified yet, and the injured were taken to Rangpur Medical College Hospital, the official added.
Taraganj police station SI Shariful Islam said that a Rangpur-bound bus collided with a Dinajpur-bound at Dowalipara area.
In Tangail, a driver was killed, and four others were injured in a head-on collision between two trucks.
The incident took place in the district's Ghatail upazila.
In Rajshahi, three people were killed when a truck rammed a motorbike at Dangerhat in Paba upazila of Rajshahi district on Tuesday.
The deceased were identified as Shaheen Ali, 40, son of Abu Syed, Sohagh Ali, 28, son of Md Babul and Rakib Ali, 26, son of Anwar Hossain of Bahrampur area.
Ismail Hossain, officer-in-charge of Kornahar police station, said the accident occurred around 4pm when the iron-rod laden truck hit the motorbike when it reached in front of Dangerhat School, leaving Shaheen and Sohagh dead on the spot and injured one.
The injured was taken to Rajshahi Medical College and Hospital where the doctors declared Rakib dead.
Police seized the truck.
In Chandpur, a teacher and a student of a local madrasha were killed when a bus hit a motorbike at Rasulpur in Kachua upazila in the afternoon, reports UNB.
The deceased were identified as Zahid Hossain, 25, son of Abdur Razzak of Shahrasti upazila and Jabber Hossain, 13, son of Sahabuddin of Laksham upazila.
The accident occurred around 2pm when the bus of Bogdad Paribahan from Chandpur hit the motorbike, leaving them injured, said Ibrahim Khalil, officer-in-charge of Kachua police station.
They died while taking to upazila health complex.
Vehicular movement remained suspended for some time following the accident.
In Pabna, two students were killed and another one was injured when a motorbike skidded off the road on Madhupur-Sathia road at Boalmari intersection in Sathia upazila on Monday midnight, reports UNB.
The deceased were identified as Rubel Hossain, 22, a student of Pabna government Edward College and son of Nazrul Islam and Juboraz, 16, an SSC examinee and son of Yunus Ali of the upazila.
Rafiqul Islam, officer-in-charge of Sathia police station, said the accident took place at 12am when the motorbike carrying trio fell on the road as its driver lost control over steering, leaving them injured.
Later, they were taken to Pabna General Hospital where the doctors declared two of them dead.
The duo met the tragedy while returning home from a trade fair.
In Mymensingh, Apu Mia, 20, a helper of a truck driver and son of Abdur Rahman of Kishoreganj district, was killed when the sand-laden truck overturned at Dighirpar in Gafargaon upazila of Mymensingh district in the morning, said Rasheduzzaman Khan, officer-in-charge of Pagla police station, reports UNB.
In Satkhira, a college teacher died in a road accident at Patkelghata Tuesday morning.
The deceased is Fakir Ahmed Shah, 60, assistant professor of Bengali department of Harun-Ur-Rashid College, Patkelghata.
College teacher Prof Nazmul Haque said that at about 9:30am on Tuesday, on the way from Satkhira to Patkelghata College, a moving bus hit his motorcycle at Bhairab Nagar, leaving him seriously injured.
He was rescued and first admitted to Satkhira Sadar Hospital. When his physical condition deteriorated, he was rushed to Khulna Medical College for admission, but he died on the way.
Kanchan Kumar Roy, officer-in-charge of Patkelghata police station in Satkhira, confirmed the death.
In Pirojpur, two sisters died and three others were injured when a bus hit them in Adhazhuri area of Pirojpur-Nazirpur-Dhaka road.
The deceased are Mukta Akhtar, 25, and Maria Akhtar, 11.
Manzarul, 25, brother of the deceased, and two others – van driver Monir Sheikh, 50, and van passenger Azizul Ghazi, 35, were seriously injured in the incident.
Pirojpur Sadar police station OC M Masuduzzaman confirmed the matter on Tuesday.
According to police and local sources, three brothers and sisters went to Sriramkathi Port of Nazirpur upazila for shopping at noon. After shopping, they were returning home in a van. A bus of Imad Paribahan rammed the van carrying them in Aadzhuri area.
M Mizanur Rahman, UP member of Bhairampur area of Kadamtala union, said that the deceased Mukta Akhtar was studying honours in Pirojpur Government Suhrawardy College and her younger sister Maria Akhtar was in the fifth grade of the local primary school.
OC Masuduzzaman said that the bus has been seized. The injured were rescued and sent to hospital for treatment. He added that preparations were underway to file a case in this regard.
