Rescue operations of cargo ship MV Sagar Nandini-2 sank in Meghna of Bhola began on Wednesday, a total of 80 hours after the accident.
Coast Guard rescue vessel (Barge) reached the spot on Tuesday night to join the rescue effort, Padma Oil Company Ltd DGM and Accident Investigation Officer Asif Malek confirmed.
A team of 50 divers and experts including BIWTA and Coast Guard is participating in the rescue operation while Coast Guard-Navy Police are assisting in the rescue operation.
BIWTA Director (Marine Conservation and Management Department) Md Shajahan said: “The rescue operation was carried out by a team of 50 people. Although initial dredging work is delayed by fog and currents, rescue efforts will shortly be finished. The official is unable to specify a completion date for the rescue operations, though.”
The lighter vessel with 1.1 million litres of fuel sank after being hit by another vessel in Meghna River due to dense fog in sadar upazila of Bhola district early Sunday.
