Traffic advisory for metro rail inauguration

The Dhaka Metropolitan Police has issued a traffic advisory for Wednesday, when Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina will inaugurate the much-anticipated Dhaka Metro Rail.

The prime minister will inaugurate Bangladesh's first-ever elevated metro rail at Uttara's Diabari. Later, she will buy a ticket there and travel to the Agargaon station. 

According to the DMP, the roads below will be closed throughout her journey. 

DMP Joint Commissioner (Operations) Biplab Kumar Sarkar told Bangla Tribune the prime minister will reach the Uttara Diabari metro rail station from Ganabhaban by road.

She will board the train as part of the inauguration and go to the Agargaon station, he said.

The DMP has taken special security measures for the inauguration.

The police have issued seven guidelines for the residents and businesses along the Agargaon-Uttara route of the metro rail. 

As per the notice, no new tenants will be allowed to move into any building or flat near the metro rail site before Thursday, and no new offices, shops, or restaurants can be opened in the nearby commercial spaces on Wednesday.

People are instructed not to dry clothes or stand on balconies next to the metro rail route on the day of the inauguration.

The notice also said no pictures or festoons can be put up on buildings or flats in those areas on that day.

No one will be allowed to stay in the commercial space of any building adjacent to the metro rail or in residential hotels on Wednesday, it said.

Owner of licensed weapons were requested to turn in their arms to nearby police stations within December 25.

The notice also said during the inauguration program all banks and ATM booths on both sides of the metro rail will have to remain closed from morning till the end of the ceremony.
