Five people were injured when a bus hit a private car on their way to the Awami League's national council from Madaripur's Shibchar upazila at the toll plaza of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman Expressway (Dhaka-Mawa Expressway) in Munshiganj Saturday morning.
The injured are Bajlur Rahman, 40, organizing secretary of Shibchar upazila Bhadrasan union Awami League, joint general secretary of Bhadrasan union Awami League Abul Hossain, 45, union Awami League leader Biplab, 35, and union Awami League leader Akash Malo, 35. The identity of another injured could not be known yet.
Nazmul Hossain Lablu, leader of Shibchar upazila Swechasebak League, said: “On the occasion of the 22nd national council of AL at the historic Suhrawardy Udyan, leaders and activists of Shibchar upazila Awami League and allied organizations left for Dhaka in the morning in buses, microbuses and private cars.”
“A private car carrying our activists was paying toll at the toll plaza on the Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman Expressway. At that time, a bus of Taj Ananda Paribahan hit the car from behind, leaving five of the activists in the car injured,” he added.
Shibchar municipal Chhatra League President Habib Bepari said that they were rescued and sent to Dhaka Medical College Hospital (DMCH). The condition of Bajlur Rahman and Abul Hossain among the injured is said to be critical.
Keraniganj Fire Service Inspector Md Hanif said that one person was trapped inside the car. He was rescued and sent to Sir Salimullah Medical College Hospital (Mitford Hospital).
Hasara highway police Officer-in-charge (OC) Zakir Hossain Molla said that the car was removed by two wreckers in the Keraniganj area of Dhaka-Mawa Expressway toll plaza. Traffic is normal now.
