8.5C worth of gold dug up from banana orchard

The Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) has dug up 86 gold bars worth TK8.55 crore from a banana orchard near the Jadavpur border in Maheshpur upazila of Jhenaidah.

The gold bars, recovered on Tuesday, weighed around 11.4kg, Lt Col Shahin Azad, commanding officer of BGB-58 battalion, told a press conference later in the day.

Acting on a tip-off, a team of the BGB conducted the drive in the area and found the gold bars wrapped in scotch tape buried at the orchard.

A gang had hidden the gold bars to smuggle them into India, said the BGB official.

No arrests had been made in connection with the recovery yet, he added.
