Scientists of Farm Machinery and Postharvest Technology Department of Bangladesh Rice Research Institute (BRRI) have developed a cost-effective seed sowing machine or rice seedling planting machine.
On Saturday, the scientists of Farm Machinery and Post Harvest Department's of BRRI handed over the machine to Agriculture Extension Department, agricultural machinery manufacturers, domestic entrepreneurs and user farmers.
Under the chairmanship of Shahjahan Kabir, director general of BRRI, Rabindrashri Barua, additional secretary (Extension) of the Ministry of Agriculture was present as the chief guest.
The main article was presented by Bangladesh Rice Research Institute's "Mechanized Rice Cultivation Enhancement of Farm Machinery Research Program (SFMRA) Project" Project Director and Chief Scientific Officer of BRRI.
Dr Saiful Islam said that the device can be made very easily in a local workshop with local raw materials. The machine can be operated by less trained people.
Rabindrashri Barua said that keeping in mind the context of the world, agricultural machinery should be prepared with emphasis on practical aspects.
“We have to reduce our dependence on imports and utilize our own huge market. Then agricultural machinery manufacturers, domestic entrepreneurs and user farmers will all benefit,” Rabindrashri Barua added.
Mahbubul Haque Patwari, Additional Secretary (Planning Division), Ministry of Agriculture. Director of BRRI (Administration and General Care), Dr Md Abu Bakr Siddique, Director (Research) were present as special guest.
