A young man was arrested on Wednesday for posting distorted photos of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina on Facebook.
The arrestee is Ariful Islam, 18, son of Fazlur Rahman of Nayakata village under Dhulasar union of Kalapara upazila of Patuakhali district.
Dhulasar union Swechchhasebok League President Mintu Mia lodged a case in this connection against Ariful and two-three unnamed people with Mahipur police station under the Digital Security Act.
Abul Khair, officer-in-charge (OC) of Mahipur police station, said that Ariful Islam posted several pictures satirizing the prime minister on his Facebook profile early Tuesday. This angered locals so he changed his Facebook id to “Charmonai Mujahid” and did the same again on Tuesday afternoon.
Based on the complaint, Arif was arrested and his mobile phone was seized. At the same time, his Facebook ID was blocked on Wednesday noon.
The OC said that the arrestee has been sent to Patuakhali jail after handing him over to the court Wednesday afternoon.
