The investigation committee of the Dhaka Electric Supply Company (Desco) has submitted its inquiry report into the October 4 power outage to its higher authorities.
Desco Managing Director Kausar Amir Ali confirmed the matter to Dhaka Tribune on Thursday.
“The investigation report has already arrived. Now we will sit among ourselves. I can inform you of the details on Sunday,” he said.
Regarding the findings, he said: "Our investigation was on whether or not we took an extra load on the day of the blackout.”
Apart from Desco, three other distribution companies also formed probe bodies on October 17 on the orders of the ministry. They were asked to submit reports within three days.
Meanwhile, State Minister for Power, Energy and Mineral Resources Nasrul Hamid said the ongoing loadshedding situation would improve by November.
“I am very hopeful,” he said, while talking to reporters after an event in Dhaka.
On October 16, the Power Grid Company of Bangladesh Limited (PGCB) investigation committee submitted its report several days after the deadline, blaming a lack of coordination, competition among distribution companies and tripping problems in power transmission at Ghorashal. In view of this, State Minister Nasrul Hamid ordered the suspension of an assistant engineer and a deputy assistant engineer of the PGCB.
On October 4, power outages occurred simultaneously in the eastern and central parts of the country at 2:04pm. Power supply was gradually restored between 5pm and 9pm. The ministry and the PGCB formed two probe committees on the same day.
