Rangpur transport owners call for strike ahead of BNP rally

Rangpur District Motor Owners' Association has called for a strike from Friday 6am to Saturday 6pm demanding ban on illegal vehicles, including three-wheelers, on the highway.

The announcement was made through a press release issued by the association on Thursday.

The motor owners' association added that in defiance of the High Court's order to stop illegal vehicles without license including three-wheelers and administrative harassment in Kurigram, movement of buses, trucks, minibuses, and microbuses will be stopped on all routes of Rangpur from Friday 6am to Saturday 6pm.

BNP, on the other hand, had called a divisional rally in Rangpur on October 29.

Bus, minibus, microbus and truck services will also be suspended on all routes of Rangpur district for these two days, said Mozammel Haque, president of Rangpur District Motor Owners' Association.

Mozammel Haque said: "On October 26, a joint emergency meeting was held with the leaders of Rangpur District Motor Owners' Association, Truck Owners Association and Car-Microbus Owners Association. Based on everyone's consent, it was decided to stop the movement of buses, minibuses, trucks and microbuses on all routes of Rangpur district from 6am on Friday to 6pm on Saturday."
