LGRD minister: Govt sincerely working to tackle dengue menace

LGRD minister Tajul Islam on Monday said that government is working sincerely to deal with current dengue situation.

He said that new steps are being taken following new experiences to control dengue. 

Various initiatives including applying medicine for killing mosquitoes are being taken by the city corporation.

He made the comments at the opening ceremony of the cleanup campaign on the occasion of United Nations Day at the South Plaza of Bangladesh National Parliament.

The minister said: "We are saddened by the increasing number of dengue cases and some deaths.”

He said that the weather is different this year compared to the previous year. Now the outbreak of dengue is increasing due to intermittent rains. 

“We need to continue to raise awareness and take joint initiatives to combat the Aedes mosquito,” said the minister.

Another death from dengue confirmed in 24 hours till Sunday morning raised this year's fatalities from the mosquito-borne disease in Bangladesh to 113.

A total of 3,492 dengue patients, including 2,286 in the capital, are now receiving treatment at hospitals across the country.

The Directorate has recorded 31,063 dengue cases and 27,458 recoveries so far this year.
