Police Bureau of Investigation (PBI) chief Additional IGP Banaj Kumar Majumder has filed a case against former superintendent of police Babul Akter, expatriate journalist Elias Hossain and two others on charges of making an ongoing investigation questionable, spreading false information and using abusive language.
Superintendent of PBI Dhaka North Jahangir Alam filed a first information report on behalf of Banaj and Dhanmondi police registered it as a case on Tuesday.
Abu Yusuf, additional superintendent of police, PBI headquarters, confirmed the matter.
The two other accused in the case are Babul’s father Abdul Wadud Mia, 72, and his brother Habibur Rahman Labu, 45.
Babul on September 8 in a Chittagong court filed a petition seeking its permission to file a case against six PBI officials, including Banaj, accusing them of torturing him in custody.
The court later on Sunday dismissed the appeal following a hearing.
A few days ago, Elias Hossain posted a video on his YouTube channel and Facebook page about the murder of Babul Akter's wife, Mahmuda Khanam Mitu, claiming that Babul had been framed for the murder of Mitu.
