The prices of essentials will drop when the dollar-taka exchange rate stabilizes, Commerce Minister Tipu Munshi has said.
Bangladesh had not been able to benefit from the fall in the prices of various commodities, including edible oils, due to the jump in the exchange rate, the minister told reporters at his home in Rangpur on Saturday.
He said his ministry would soon hold a meeting with the Bangladesh Tariff Commission to readjust edible oil prices in line with prices in the international market.
Describing Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina’s recent India trip as successful, the minister said Indian businesses wanted to expand trade between the countries.
“They have proposed to use the sea ports of our country. We are also considering which of their sea ports to use,” Tipu Munshi added.
