A Chittagong court summoned the Chittagong University proctor in connection with a sexual assault on campus on July 17.
The court issued the order during an accused's bail hearing on Monday afternoon in the court of Chittagong District and Sessions Judge Aziz Ahmed Bhuiyan, Chittagong District Public Prosecutor (PP) Sheikh Iftekhar Saimul Chowdhury said.
He said that an accused named Nur Hossain Shaon was arrested in Hathazari police station and applied for bail in the case of sexual abuse of a CU student. For the bail hearing, the court summoned the university's proctorial body and also the victim to the court.
The court fixed a new hearing date on September 14 in the presence of the victim and the proctorial body, the public prosecutor added.
On July 17, a female student was physically assaulted by five youths while she was going to the Botanical Garden from Pritilata Hall of the campus with her friend around 10pm.
The miscreants also recorded the incident and threatened to make it viral.
In response to the incident, several student organizations and general students organized protests and formed human chains for several issues, including security on the campus.
Later, the members of Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) arrested five people involved in the sexual assault on that night.
The arrestees were identified as Azim, 23, a second-year history department student of CU, Nur Hossain Shaon, 22, and Masud Rana, 22, students of Hathazari Government College, and Nurul Absar Babu, 23, and Saiful.
According to the RAB, they are all associated with Bangladesh Chhatra League.
