Teachers are not allowed to teach students from their own educational institutions through coaching centres, Education Minister Dipu Moni has said.
She made the remarks while talking to reporters after inaugurating the BCB Councillor Cup T20 cricket tournament at Chandpur Stadium on Friday.
She said: “It is already declared illegal that teachers cannot tutor outside their institution or in coaching centres.”
“Sometimes it is not possible for teachers to give equal attention to all the students in class, as a result many fall behind. Besides, parents who have jobs cannot manage proper time for their children, and in that case, coaching centres may be needed,” she added.
However, she said, it is unethical to force students to enroll in coaching centres, and failing them in tests, if they choose not to.
On Thursday, the minister said all educational institutions will have internet access soon.
She said: “We have already converged 100% electricity in all educational institutions. Now educational institutions will be given internet coverage”
The minister further mentioned that under this new curriculum teaching and learning would be more enjoyable and educational instructions will turn into a “joy centre”.
Students will learn through experience and experiment, and no one would have to memorize lectures anymore, the education minister noted.
She also pointed out that the ministry is bringing a new curriculum from pre-primary to higher secondary levels.
