The deceased was identified Kazi Helen, 22, a second semester students of English department, said Professor Dr Mohammed Safiuddin, proctor of the IIUC.
Sergeant Rafique Majumdar, in-charge of Foujdarhat Highway police outpost, said: “The accident took place in Dakhin Salimpur area, Sitakunda upazila when a rented bus of the IIUC carrying around 40 students collided head-on with a truck which was coming from opposite direction, leaving 12 persons critically injured.”
Being informed, police rushed to the spot and sent the injured people to different hospitals, including Chittagong Medical College Hospital (CMCH), added the police personnel.
Assistant Sub-Inspector of CMCH police outpost Pankaj Barua said: “Five female students were brought to the hospital where the on-duty doctor declared Helen dead.”
