Youth held for attending classes in DU for 3 years under fake identity

Police have detained a youth for attending classes and examinations posing as a student without getting admitted in the Political Science department of Dhaka University (DU).

The accused, Sajid Ul Kabir, was detained by the university authorities while taking part in an examination of sixth semester on Wednesday.

The DU authority said he could not provide any proof of his studentship during primary interrogation.

Later, the university authorities handed him over to the law enforcement agency for further investigation.

According to the students of the department, the accused was participating in class and examination with the regular students of the academic year 2018-19. Everyone in the batch has come to think of him (Sajid) as a classmate over the years.

On Wednesday, a teacher of the department asked him to show his documents during an examination of a course. He, however, failed to provide any documents of his studentship.

Prof Tasneem Siddiqui, chairperson of Political Science Department, said: “He was taking part in the examination on a roll number that was not accurate. Initially, we identified him as not a student of our department. He was later handed over to representatives of the University Proctor’s Office.”

DU Proctor Prof AKM Golam Rabbani said: “He is an outsider and he has no studentship in the university. Based on his written and verbal confession, we handed him over to the law enforcement agencies. Law enforcement forces will investigate whether he has any other motive.”
