44 fishermen stranded in Bay of Bengal rescued after 5 days

The Coast Guard, on Sunday, rescued 44 fishermen who were stranded on the Bay of Bengal for the last five days. 

Coast Guard Headquarters spokesperson Lieutenant Commander Khandaker Munik Touqi confirmed the matter to Bangla Tribune. 

All the fishermen are from Chittagong’s Bashkhali area. 

Two trawlers--- ‘River Mate’ and ‘Mayer Doa’ were floating on the bay for five days after the crankshaft and piston broke following a storm. 

As many as 21 fishermen onboard the ‘River Mate’ were rescued from the Trikona Island of the Bay of Bengal, far away from Mongla’s Akram Point. 

Meanwhile, 23 fishermen onboard the ‘Mayer Doa’ were rescued from the Mohipur Mohona area of the Bay. 

On Friday, 16 fishing trawlers capsized in the Bay of Bengal amid inclement weather. As of Sunday, 250 fishermen from Patuakhali are missing.
