A Dhaka tribunal on Thursday sentenced a man to life imprisonment in a case filed over the rape of a 11-year-old girl in in the capital’s Sabujbagh area in May 2017.
Judge AM Zulfikar Hayat of Dhaka Women and Children Repression Prevention Tribunal 3 handed down the sentence in presence of the convict, Raju Ahmed.
The tribunal also fined him Tk1 lakh, in default of which he will have to stay six more months in jail.
On February 7, 2018, the rape survivor’s mother filed the case at Subjabagh police station.
On February 27 that year, the girl gave birth to a boy. At present, the child is at Sonamani Nivas in Azimpur.
Following an investigation, the police filed a chargesheet on May 7, 2018.
