A video showing some baggage handlers carelessly throwing passengers’ luggage onto carts has gone viral on social media, raising concern about negligence at Dhaka airport among both domestic and international air travellers.
Airport Executive Director Group Captain Muhammed Kamrul Islam on Sunday told Dhaka Tribune: "We have already discussed the matter with the ground handling authorities. They have assured strict vigilance in this regard from now on. We will also monitor the situation."
In the video, posted on Instagram by the Bangladeshi Community on Sunday, some baggage handlers are seen throwing luggage from an aircraft onto carts.
However, Dhaka Tribune could not verify when the video was recorded.
Some people in the comments section of the video complained that baggage handling was not automated at the airport yet.
They also criticized the staffers, who were not performing their duties properly.
One of the commenters said he had never heard anything good about Biman Bangladesh Airlines.
Another person in the post’s comment box said: "The wages of the workers are way too low to get their manners in check!"
One Instagram user said the baggage handlers should be fired immediately.
Another similar video went viral on social media several months ago, but the Biman authorities did not take any effective measures to check such carelessness.
