Home Minister Asaduzzaman Khan Kamal on Sunday said a law is being enacted to make dope tests compulsory for students before admission to universities.
“Before admissions to respective universities, a student has to undergo medical tests, which would also include dope tests,” he said.
He made the statements at a press conference held for "International Day Against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking, 2022" at the Secretariat on Sunday.

“Not only drug control, the forces are also working to protect the youth from the scourge of drugs. For this, the government is also working to prevent the entry of drugs from the neighboring country,” he added.
Kamal claimed that, in the year 2020-21, there were more than 20,000 cases related to drugs including yaba, cannabis and phensedyl.
Mentioning that yaba and ice drugs are coming from Myanmar, the minister said: "I have requested that country (Myanmar) but they do not to keep their promises. They did not take action to stop the supply of yaba. However, the Indian government has already shut down the phensedyl factories along the border.
He further said that many Rohingyas are involved in the drug trade.
"They bring drugs from Myanmar to this country. Surveillance has already been stepped up along the Myanmar border. Anyone involved with drugs–the administration or the politicians– is all facing the law. Zero tolerance against drugs has been declared,” he observed.
