Authorities in Bangladesh have advised all maritime ports to hoist Local Cautionary Signal No 3 as deep convection is taking place over North Bay due to the active monsoon.
Squally weather is likely to affect the maritime ports of Chittagong, Cox's Bazar, Mongla and Payra, the met office said on Saturday.
All fishing boats and trawlers in North Bay have been advised to remain close to the coast and proceed with caution until further notice, it added.
The met office forecast light to moderate rain or thundershowers accompanied by temporary gusty wind at most places in Khulna, Barishal and Chittagong divisions, and at a few places in Rangpur, Rajshahi, Mymensingh, Dhaka and Sylhet divisions, with moderately heavy to heavy falls at places in Khulna, Barishal and Chittagong divisions.
It also predicted that rain or thundershowers may increase in the 72 hours from 9am on Saturday.
Hoisting Local Cautionary Signal No 3 is advised when ports are threatened by squally weather with wind speeds of 40-50kmph.
