Dhaka is returning to normalcy after the Eid-ul-Azha holidays with the reopening of most workplaces and the return of people from outside the capital.
While many working people returned on Saturday and Sunday, some started returning on Monday and Tuesday, with many returning on Wednesday.
On Wednesday morning, thousands were seen at Kamalapur Railway Station, Sadarghat launch terminal, and Mohakhali, Gabtoli and Sayedabad bus terminals, but there were no reports of heavy traffic congestions.
Different sources said the pressure of passengers on roads, railways and waterways would continue to increase gradually on Thursday and Friday.
By Saturday, huge crowds are expected in Dhaka, and as the city is not crowded yet, there are not many public transports plying its roads.
Officials of Kamalapur Railway Station told Bangla Tribune that the trains returning to the capital since morning were full of passengers. However, passengers were not seen travelling on train roofs, they added.
The majority of returnees were working people.
Transport workers at Gabtoli, Mohakhali and Sayedabad bus terminals said no bus had returned empty and people from all classes were seen on the buses.
On the other hand, since the opening of the Padma Bridge, fewer passengers have been seen on the launches.
Workers at the launch terminals said the number of passengers would increase on Friday and Saturday. They added that most of the returnees included women, children and the elderly.
Meanwhile, shops located in alleys and sidewalks of the city are reopening, but sales are low. However, different markets and shopping malls are still closed.
