Efforts are underway to make visa processing easier to bring in more foreign tourists, State Minister for Civil Aviation and Tourism Md Mahbub Ali has said.
“We are working on it keeping tourism in mind,” a ministry statement quoted him as saying on Thursday.
The state minister was speaking as the chief guest at the inauguration of “Triplover Dhaka Travel Mart 2022” at a hotel in Dhaka.
The seven eastern states of India as well as Nepal and Bhutan did not have any sea beaches, he said, adding: “If we can make visa processing easier for them, we will draw in a lot of tourists.”
“We will soon hold an inter-ministerial meeting with the home ministry where relevant stakeholders will be present,” he said.
The state minister further said he would soon speak to Home Minister Asaduzzaman Khan regarding operating international cruise ships to Bangladesh.
“Those traveling on the cruise ships will be able to complete immigration on board so that they can enjoy tourist spots without any hassle.”
He said the Padma Bridge, metro rail, elevated expressway and the new airport terminal would significantly boost tourism.
Moreover, a master plan was in the works for the planned development of historical tourist spots of the country, he added.
