Army chief General SM Shafiuddin Ahmed has said that the force will produce toxin-free and organic food grains in the barren lands of all the cantonments across the country.
“We’ve taken special projects to cultivate fresh and organic crops in every cantonment area of the country,” he said on Thursday afternoon while visiting the agro commodity product competition in Savar cantonment area.

He added that the army wants to play an important role to ensure food safety in Bangladesh, inspired by the prime minister’s landmark moves to achieve self-sufficiency in food by cultivating every inch of the land in the country.

In addition to different types of fish farming, catfish and tilapia fish are being produced following biofloc method in the cantonment areas,” Gen Shafiuddin said.Quartermaster General (QMG) of the Army Lt Gen Md Saiful Alam, Adjutant General of Army Maj Gen Md Moshfequr Rahman, GOC Ninth Infantry Division and Savar Area Commander Maj Gen Mohammad Shaheenul Haque and other high officials were also present during the visit.
