PM Hasina mourns death of Captain Nawshad

Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina on Monday expressed deep shock and sorrow at the death of Biman Bangladesh Airlines pilot Captain Nawshad Ataul Quaiyum.

In a condolence message, the prime minister prayed for eternal peace of the departed soul and conveyed deep sympathy to the bereaved family.

Meanwhile, Civil Aviation and Tourism State Minister M Mahbub Ali and Secretary Md Mokammel Hossain also expressed deep shock and sorrow at the death of Captain Nawshad.

Terming Captain Qayyum as a high skilled pilot, Ali said, he always gave highest priority on safety of the passengers in his carrier.

They prayed for eternal peace of the departed soul and conveyed deep sympathy to the bereaved family in separate condolence messages.

With the consent of his family, Captain Nawshad's ventilation was opened at 11am on Monday and he was pronounced dead.

Captain Nawshad was declared clinically dead on Sunday and was under ventilation support at the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) of a Indian hospital for the last four days as he suffered a heart attack mid-air on Friday during the Dhaka-bound Biman Bangladesh Airlines flight from Muscat.

The Biman flight (BG-022), which made the emergency landing at Nagpur airport had departed for Dhaka on the same night with all of its 124 passengers.
