Biman to bring Captain Nawshad’s body soon

Biman Bangladesh Airlines has been working on bringing back the body of Captain Nawshad Ataul Quaiyum, who passed away in India on Monday morning.

“Biman authorities have started the process to bring back the deceased captain soon,” said a press release of the national flag carrier on Monday evening.

Biman will offer special prayers seeking eternal peace of the departed soul at its all mosques and prayer rooms after Zuhr prayers on TUesday, it added.

All levels of employees of the state-owned airlines, including its Managing Director and CEO Dr Abu Saleh Mostofa Kamal, expressed their deep shock at the death of Captain Nawshad, and conveyed their profound sympathy to members of the bereaved family.       

In separate condolence messages, Civil Aviation and Tourism State Minister M Mahbub Ali and Secretary Md Mokammel Hossain also expressed deep shock and sorrow at the death of Captain Qayyum.

With the consent of his family, Captain Nawshad's ventilation was opened at 11am on Monday and he was pronounced dead.

Captain Nawshad was declared clinically dead on Sunday and was under ventilation support at the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) of a Indian hospital for the last four days as he suffered a heart attack mid-air on Friday during the Dhaka-bound Biman Bangladesh Airlines flight from Muscat.

The Biman flight (BG-022), which made the emergency landing at Nagpur airport had departed for Dhaka on the same night with all of its 124 passengers.
