Law, Justice and Parliamentary Affairs Minister Anisul Huq on Sunday said it seems debatable whether it would be right to call Ziaur Rahman a real freedom fighter as he was never seen nurturing the spirit of Liberation War.
The law minister said it has to be proven that he is a real freedom fighter.
Anisul came up with the observations while addressing a virtual discussion as the chief guest on legal review of Bangabandhu murder trial organized by the Faculty of Law of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman University of Science and Technology (BSMRSTU), Gopalganj, an official release said here.
Presided over by BSMRSTU Vice-Chancellor (VC) Dr AQM Mahbub, the discussion was conducted by Law Faculty dean and Proctor of the university Dr Md Rajiur Rahman.

"Our valiant Freedom Fighters, following the direction of Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman, have liberated Bangladesh. They defeated the enemy from all the sides and achieved the independence of Bangladesh," the law minister said.
"It is sad to say that I was reading news yesterday, saying, Bangladesh would not have been independent if this killer Ziaur Rahman had not raised resistance at Kalurghat. I want to say something today, there can be much debate on whether Ziaur Rahman had really fought on March 27 after the Kalurghat resistance or it was done by the soldiers," he added.
Anisul further said:” It has to be proven that Ziaur Rahman was a real freedom fighter as apart from going to India or raising a ‘fake force’ named Z force, from his activities, we never saw him to nurture the spirit of Liberation War.”
