Three Indians, suspected of being members of an international gang of bookmakers, have been held in Chittagong during the Bangladesh-West Indies Test on Saturday.
Members of the National Security Intelligence (NSI) detained them from the main entrance of the Zahur Ahmed Chowdhury Stadium before handing them over to the local police, reports UNB.
The suspects are Sunil Kumar, 38, Chatan Sharma, 33, and Sunny Myagu, 32.
“Several international betting gangs are active in the port city during the Test match. The NSI suspects these Indian nationals to be involved with betting,” the report quoted Pahartali police station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Hasan Imam.
He also said they found some video footage on devices of the suspects but nothing to link them with betting.
“We’re cross-checking the information they gave us. They will face legal actions if they are bookies. We are also checking if they entered Bangladesh legally,” the OC added.
