The Department of Japanese Studies (DJS), University of Dhaka organized a second career talk for its students on Sunday.
The speaker of the event was Mr Yuji Ando, country representative of Japan External Trade Organization (JETRO) and president of Japan Bangladesh Chamber of Commerce and Industries (JBCCI).
The program was presided over by the Chairman of the department Dr Abdullah-Al-Mamun. He discussed various issues of getting jobs at Japanese companies and the norms and values they follow.
Sharing his life experience and interview experience, he encouraged the students of the department to think broadly with a high aim. “Seeing is believing; Do not limit yourself; Always be humble, but respect yourself”—have been some key notes he asked the students to remember.
Significantly, he pointed out with relevant case studies how important punctuality, honesty, sincerity, applicability or flexibility, making no excuse, ability to listen, anticipation and taking measurement, understanding the responses of others, and not overestimating oneself.
Last but not the least, he opened the “Pandora’s Box” of job opportunities for the qualified Japanese Studies’ graduates indicating the increasing number of Japanese companies in Bangladesh.
Israt Jahan, assistant manager of JETRO, during her speech said this is an endeavor by the first ever area studies department in this hundred-year-old institution to ensure students’ employment.
Dr Abdullah-Al-Mamun mentioned a number of initiatives taken by the department i.e. skill development training. A collaborative effort had been highly emphasized by the chair for the benefit of both ends.
A good number of students joined the session with enormous enthusiasm. Among the faculty members Dr Md Jahangir Alam, Dr Dilruba Sharmin, Dr Lopamudra Malek, Mr Shiblee Noman and Mr Md Saifullah Akon were present during the session.
