A wartime bomb was found while digging for the third terminal of Shahjalal International Airport, which is under construction.
Sources said that while piling at the construction site of the third terminal of the airport at 9am on Wednesday, the workers saw a cylinder-like general purpose (GP) bomb about three metres deep in the ground.
The Inter Services Public Relations (ISPR) Directorate published a press release in this regard which said the authorities Air Force Base - Bangabandhu's Bomb Disposal Unit, who came to the scene confirmed it was a bomb and defused it.
The bomb weighs about 250kg. After defusing, the bomb was then taken to Rasulpur firing range under Pahar Kanchanpur to demolish it.
Bomb experts are speculating that this bomb was dropped to the ground during the Liberation War of 1971.
The scene of the third terminal which is outside the main airport area, is now safe.
