Anti-Terrorism Unit (ATU) has arrested a suspected member of the banned militant outfit Ansarullah Bangla team-ABT, also known as Ansar al-Islam.
The arrested was identified as Md Sarowar Hossain Sohag, 25.
He was arrested from Bhola sadar on Friday around 02:30am, ATU SP (media) Mohammad Aslam Khan confirmed the matter during a press briefing.
He said, Sarowar is an active member of ABT. He was planning to create unrest in Bangladesh with his associates and make religious provocations through Facebook, WhatsApp ,imo, etc.
During the arrest, ATU members recovered several documents on extremism and radicalism, and mobile phones from him.
On Friday, a case was filed against him and his unknown associates at Bhola sadar police station, he said.
Interrogation and investigation is ongoing in this regard, he further added.
Meanwhile, in another operation, ATU arrested a man named Md Mojahid Mia, 18, from Khilgaon in Dhaka on Thursday.
The ATU recovered mobile phones and three SIM cards while arresting Mujahid.
SP Aslam said arrested Mujahid is an extremist organizer who propagates various information online and offline to establish their extremist ideology through armed struggle, to cause the law and order situation to deteriorate, and he also insulted the Prime Minister.
