Police have arrested the driver of the microbus that killed mountaineer Reshma Nahar Ratna in a hit-and-run incident near parliament on August 7.
The microbus that ran over Reshma has also been seized.
The driver of the microbus, Nayeem, was arrested in Ibrahimpur of Kafrul on Monday night, as confirmed by Sher-e-Bangla Nagar police station Sub-Inspector (SI) Mubarak Ali.
SI Mubarak Ali, who is also the investigation officer (IO) of the case, said: “The microbus that ran over Reshma was carrying passengers. The vehicle fled from the scene right after the accident.”
“Immediately after the accident, bystanders rushed Reshma to Shaheed Suhrawardy Medical College Hospital, where on-duty doctors pronounced her dead,” the officer added.

He said: “Police had formed several teams to collect and analyze closed-circuit television camera [CCTV] footage of different areas in Dhaka to locate the microbus that killed Reshma.
“As a result of that, we were finally able to catch the culprit.”
Earlier on August 7, the 33-year-old mountaineer was crushed under the wheels of a car while cycling on the Crescent Lake Road near the parliament building in Dhaka.
The mountaineer, who was also a teacher at Ayub Ali Government Primary School near Dhaka’s New Market, was buried in her village at Lohagara, Narail, on August 8.

Reshma's brother-in-law, Mohammad Monir Hossain, filed the case over Reshma’s death with Sher-e-Bangla Nagar police station on the day of the incident.
Monir said Reshma had been a vocal proponent of road safety on social media and rode a bicycle as it was pollution-free.
She also completed training at the Nehru Institute of Mountaineering in Uttarakhand, India, said her local trainer Mir Shamsul Alam Babu.
He said Reshma had been planning to climb Mount Everest. She climbed over 6,000 feet in Ladakh, India, a few months ago.
Besides mountaineering, she was also interested in marathons and cycling.
